Autumn

Some people think Autumn is just the transition from summer to winter. Others like my wife think of it as one of the most beautiful times of the year. We moved to NC from FL for a change of seasons so we were excited as fall approached.

A couple of newsworthy items about this, our first fall in NC. According to the news, because of the severe drought occurring here, this is supposed to be a year with less color. Then we heard on the news that October 13th was going to be the peak foliage time in Boone NC.

So Saturday October 13th, we drove out to Boone (a couple hours away) to see the fall foliage and we were a little disappointed. Almost no color at all, but it was still nice. It was nice to get out of town and spend time with the family. We took our new puppy, Sam with us, I think he had fun!

It was funny, the Monday after we went to Boone, I was telling someone about our trip and they asked "why would you drive all the way to Boone when you can stay home and see fall colors in a couple weeks?"

So maybe we'll have better luck soon by just looking out the window!

I live in Boone. The fall colors peaked this weekend, Sat. Oct. 20 and 21. It's Tuesday, we've had some nice rain, and the leaves are dropping a bit. But, contrary to many controversy-hungry journalists' predictions regarding the drought, it's been gorgeous as usual. Fall is always pretty in the mountains, and we are much less affected by drought. I didn't see where you live, but I do hope your fall is wonderful wherever you are!
